Vortex of Doom template

This is a quick A4-sized 'template' I had worked up featuring 3" blast 'vortex' templates, for use in games of Warhammer 40k.

R.I.P. Grandmaster Mordrak

Alaspoor Mordrak! I knew him, Huron; a fellow of infinite ghosts.
Of most precise deepstriking;
he hath borne me on his Geller Field a thousand times;
and now how abhorred in my imagination it it!
My army list rims at it.
Here hung that daemonhammer that I have kissed
I know not how oft.
Where be your spawning spectres now?
Your teleportation?
Your prayers?
Your firsts to the fray that were wont to set the table on a roar?
Not turn one now,
to mock your own revenge?
Quite codex-excluded?

Dreadknight Delight

Good news! New grey Knight codex in a week or so, updated in-line with 7th edition 40K!

Are You Jokearo-ing?

Towards the end days of 6th edition I had been experimenting with elements of the now-aging Grey Knight Codex that attracts ridicule and respect alike, the Jokaero Weaponsmiths!

Easy To Make "Maelstrom of War" Numbered Objective Counters!

Ive been trying out the Maelstrom of War missions from the new 7th edition rulebook. At the moment I'm just using the objective markers I have putting large dice adjacent to it to mark out the 'numbers' integral to the randomised tactical objective cards, which has introduced a whole new element to the game of 40K.

The new missions I've found to be fun to play, but it wasn't long before I thought to myself: How can I make new counters/markers easily, and still in keeping with the 40K setting?

Easy To Make Objective Counters - Xenos Neon-Green Markers!

Since I've started playing 40K at the Edinburgh League of Gamers, I noticed I was short of a few objective markers and templates, so apart from buying a new sprue set of neon green assault on black reach templates like so:

Tournament Report - Edinburgh Exterminatus 2014

“EDINBURGH EXTERMINATUS – APRIL 2014”
c/o EDINBURGH LEAGUE OF GAMERS

Greeting wall-of-text readers! After a few weeks attending the Edinburgh League of Gamers (ELG) on a weekly Wednesday-night basis to get my 40K fix, I found out that the ELG were holding a 2-day tournament consisting of the following:

  1. 1750 points, 6th edition “singles” tournament, allies + Forgeworld-allowed, no Super heavies / Lords of War.
  2. 5 games of standardized 40K games consisting of 5 scenarios from the BRB rulebook with very minor variations per mission, with tournament scores attributable to differences in achieving primary, secondary, and bonus secret mission tertiary objectives.
  3. Approx. 2.5 hour time limit per game to keep to the schedule. Swiss system tournament setup. 10 tables (20 players) in total, with random allocation to start out with but a designated ‘top table’ (1) and ‘bottom table’ (10) which would give an indication of overall player rankings.
  4. Lunch, bottles of water and snacks provided, with a licensed bar.

While having never entered a 40K tournament before and reading of all sorts of power-cheese lists galore in such circumstances, I thought it would be an ideal way to spend my weekend meeting up with fellow enthusiasts I might not ever see at the weekly games night, plus to expand and interact with my ever-growing 40K social circle, so why not? 5 games of 40K in 2 days, woohoo!

Edinburgh League of Gamers

With my regular opponents (Laurence & Dougie) winding down 40K, I had struggled to figure out what to do with this hobby-disease called Warhammer 40,000 as the painting, modelling, and collecting aspects without gaming, to me seemed a hollow pursuit. I personally believe it is at it's best when shared, and despite the shared, rich complex backdrop of the 40K universe and the plethora of toys one can buy, sometimes in the Grim Darkness of the Far Future it can seem like a pretty lonely place...

MARBO: Last Blood

Missing your favourite Catachan Jungle-Fightin' Deathworlder from your updated and recently released Codex: Astra Millitarum? Fear you will have to retire all your converted count-as Marbo's as they are now unplayable on a standard game of 6th edition 40K?

I have the solution!

For fans of Marbo, I've now worked up a parody dataslate/supplement of Sly Marbo - Unus Virum Millitarum (The One Man Army) for 'personal' use of your own games, complete with expanded D6 Random Warlord Traits table. All in handy JPEG format so you can view them anywhere in non-traditional media format doofer-i-thingies!

Bye Bye Marbo, We Hardly Knew Ye

NEWSFLASH!

New 6th Edition Codex: Imperial Guard... Sorry, I meant Codex: Astra Vauxhall Hatchback (a.k.a. Millitarum) cuts out Le Soldat Marbo, it's been confirmed.

Cash-strapped 40K...

Sadly, at end of an era for Wednesday Night Gaming, as one of our members is electing to sell up his Chaos Space Marine and Ork collection and getting out of 40K altogether, with another thinking of disposing his Tyranids to refocus on his existing Tau / Ultramarine / Dark angel forces.

This has got me thinking, as the intention on my part is to purchase a Stormraven (as I quite like the model) but also the new Imperial Knight has caught my eye! I would certainly welcome an addition of a Knight Paladin/Errant to bolster my Grey Knight / Inquisition forces, the new freeblade "White Warden" looks like it would slot in perfectly! But I'm unwilling to part with the cash for a whole new army....

Getting Hitched Vs 40K

Yesiree dear readers, by September of this year I will be married to the love of my life (not 40K), my wonderful and eternally patient fiancee, after having been together for over 5 years.

Monkey mayhem!

Going Bananas?

Look wot I found:

Found this on the interwebs, link here. Dinky Delights are a UK-based online shop that does 1:12 scale doll miniature accessories. Have ordered one meself, so give 'em a visit!

Jokaero objective counter, anyone? They'd be bigger than 28mm scale, but who cares! This would give the xenos space monkies sufficient motivation to throw their lot in with those Radical Inquisitors... Hmmm...

Meanwhile, here's an image from good old googlesearch, featuring the legendary 'Barrel of Monkeys' army (e.g. Codex: Jokaero, take Coteaz, spam Weaponsmiths in Chimeras, with converted Stormraven), by turbommx, for you to admire and worship:

 That is all.
