Getting Hitched Vs 40K

Yesiree dear readers, by September of this year I will be married to the love of my life (not 40K), my wonderful and eternally patient fiancee, after having been together for over 5 years.

As a coincidence, I also started re-immersing myself the collection of, painting of, and playing of 40K miniatures, for over 5 years. Funny that!

Weddings are not cheap and neither is 40K, so that's why I've had to scale back severely on my compulsion to buy 40K stuff to save up. In the past I would think nothing of spending my own disposable cash in incremental amounts of £20, £50, £100, sometimes £200 a month on 40K, but since we've been engaged my monies are no longer completely mine own, so I have been a good boy (as my tolerant fiancee tells me) and not bought anything to bolster my toy armies in almost a year but had a relapse recently in an attempt to diversify my Grey Knight army list play style and hoard more miniatures.

As a result, in the past month I had purchased the following:

1. Counts-as Jokaero models
2. Interceptor backpack bits to re-convert/kitbash old 2nd edition metal Grey Knights into interceptors.
3. Buying extra bitz from assorted Space marine kits to kitbash my own Brotherhood Champion.
4. Bought extra Grey Knights to round off the number of bodies in my Strike Squads.

All this is relatively minor and amounted to less than £50 (thanks for the savings, good ol' Bay of Ecstasy!), but now I have been looking to buy myself a brand new Stormraven kit to build and paint, as opposed to refurbishing a 2nd-hand version, but that's a bridge too far. Need to budget for that wedding! I'll probably buy and build one after the honeymoon to treat my 40k addiction-affliction...

I needs me some MOAR of that plastic crack.

Trouble is I've also been following the new IG rumours. I have been neglectful of my 1st love of 40K, but all this new stuff might reignite the flame! While I'm not keen on the rebranding 'Astra Militarum', 'Militarum Tempestus', etc, etc, for copyright purposes I can see why GW is going down that route and the new plastic kits look impressive, albeit with a totally divergent aesthetic (more Warmachine medieval Steampunk with detailing and breastplates rather than Gothic Modern carapace if you ask me).

I can also see myself totally splurging that cash to amass myself a brand new Stormtrooper army (as avid readers will be well aware of my affection for Stormies), sell off my old IG, and refurbish my old Vendettas.

I can just see it now, the reaction on my fiancee's beautiful visage:

"Honey, can I get a refund on that honeymoon to buy more plastic pew-pew-pew man barbies?"

  1. Congrats on the wedding. I had the same dilemma when I was about to get married. I found that smaller purchases meant I didn't lose parts of my anatomy. I did however manage to have the time to paint and weather my Shadowsword.

  2. Lucky you!

I have absolutely no time at all left, being caught up in the whirlwind of marriage plans and working extra hours to save enough to afford it means very little time for 40K.

Ah well, the things we do for the people we love..
